Couple told SAPD different stories after she was shot, he was stabbed on Southeast Side

The couple was rushed to a local hospital, police say

SAN ANTONIO – A couple in their 20s may have stabbed and shot each other Friday morning on the Southeast Side.

San Antonio police officers were called shortly after 9:30 a.m. to the Ridge at Southcross Apartments in the 4700 block of Stringfellow Drive, which is located just west of Pecan Valley Drive and north of East Southcross Boulevard.

Officers found a 24-year-old man in the parking lot with stab wounds to his torso and a 21-year-old woman in an apartment with gunshot wounds to her “lower extremities.” Both were transported to a local hospital.

SAPD Sgt. Chris Hernandez told reporters the pair were dating and may have been living together.

Witnesses who did not want to be identified told KSAT they saw the man stumbled from one of the buildings in the complex, fired a gun in the air and collapsed.

An SAPD detective at the scene said the man and woman were giving different stories about what had happened.

According to preliminary information SAPD sent out later Friday, the man claimed he had shot the woman after she stabbed him. Police listed the woman as the suspect but noted that officers were still investigating.

Another complex resident, Matthew Garcia, said he called 911 after he came across the man lying on the ground. The man was stabbed “in the heart” and in his side, along the ribcage, Garcia said.

Garcia also said the man, whom he didn’t know, had told him, “that there was just an argument. And then she stabbed him, and then he shot her.”

“That was pretty much it,” Garcia told KSAT.

Another resident at the complex grabbed the man’s gun and brought it to another building.

Police did not know at first if he was involved, but the man told KSAT he did not want anyone else to pick up the weapon and fire more rounds.
