SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police identified a man accused of shooting and killing a 27-year-old man at a West Side apartment complex.

According to an SAPD update released on Saturday morning, George Amaro, 24, was taken into custody after he shot another man on Friday afternoon during an argument between Amaro, the victim and the victim’s significant other.

The victim, who the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office identified as Frank Vallejo Jr. on Friday night, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Amaro, Vallejo and Vallejo’s significant other — the mother of Amaro’s 6-year-old child — are all residents at an apartment complex in the 8300 block of Potranco Road, police said.

Authorities said Saturday that Amaro and Vallejo were in an ongoing back-and-forth where both men had threatened the other earlier Friday. All three people were later arguing with Amaro and his ex’s 6-year-old child present, SAPD said.

The argument came to a head when officers said Amaro pulled out a firearm and shot Vallejo multiple times. According to police, Amaro then took his 6-year-old child and fled to his father’s apartment, which was also within the same complex.

After SAPD was dispatched to the complex around 12:30 p.m., officers said they arrived and found Vallejo on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds in the stairway area of one of the apartment buildings.

Police said officers set up a perimeter after learning Amaro went to his father’s apartment. When officers found the apartment, the report stated that they called out to Amaro, who surrendered and was arrested without further incident.

Amaro’s 6-year-old child was found safe and unharmed, SAPD said. Police said no other injuries were reported at the scene.

Amaro was booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center on Saturday morning, Bexar County jail records show.

During a Friday afternoon news conference, police said Amaro was charged with murder, but it was not known how many additional charge(s) he could face.

According to Bexar County jail records available Saturday, Amaro will face two additional charges: burglary habitation (first-degree felony) and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (second-degree felony).

A Bexar County judge set Amaro’s bond for all three charges at $470,000 total, court records show.
