Holiday recipes: Roasted butternut squash and brussels sprouts with pecans and cranberries
As we inch closer to Thanksgiving and Christmas, people are looking for new ways to incorporate healthy foods into their menus. AARP is partnering with Palo Alto College for several free, virtual workshops focused on healthy and active lifestyles. In this session, you can learn about carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, vitamins, minerals and waterโand how to incorporate each into your diet, followed by a demonstration of roasted brussels sprouts and roasted butternut squash. Nonprofit hosts virtual Day of the Dead altar workshop Thursday night
The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center is getting ready for its annual Day of the Dead programming, and itโs partnering with AARP for workshops. Community members are invited to build altars to celebrate their loved ones who have passed. For those who are not as familiar with Day of the Dead (Dia de Muertos), AARP has listed some insight on the celebration. โThe main thing that goes into it is the love and remembrance of their loved ones,โ said Cristina Balli, executive director for the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center. Early voting starts Tuesday: What you need to know for the 2020 election
Greg Abbott extended the early voting window, which had been scheduled to open a week later, helping voters avoid long Election Day lines. The portal will have poll location information starting two days before Election Day. Yes, early voting runs from Oct. 13 to Oct. 30. Registered voters can cast their ballot at any early voting location in their county. The secretary of state has issued an extensive list of health protocols for polling stations and is encouraging Texans to make use of the early voting period.
Nonprofit kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month with free virtual events
SAN ANTONIO โ Now through Oct. 15, itโs Hispanic Heritage Month, and AARP Texas is back in full force with virtual events to celebrate with the community. โHispanic Heritage Month is a national celebration of culture, history and contributions of Hispanic people," said Ismael Herrera, AARP lead in San Antonio.
