The John Jay High School boys basketball team (23-2) is regarded as one of the top programs in the state.
With eight district games left on their schedule, the Mustangs own an unblemished record in District 28-5A play.
“This is a very experienced group and they play so well together,” John Jay head coach Chaun Brooks said.
Brooks, a John Jay alum, said he feels like this is the closest the Mustangs have been to winning a state championship since the program’s first title in the 2001-02 season.
KSAT 12 Sports Director Larry Ramirez caught up with Brooks during John Jay’s practice on Thursday to dive into what makes this year’s rendition of the Mustangs so special.
“Guys take pride in assist(s). They really love it,” Brooks said. “Every offense that we have a lot of it is read option and guys really look to get assist. They’re very unselfish.”
Tune in during the Nightbeat at 10 p.m. on Friday to hear from John Jay players.
