Firefighters in San Antonio-area deploy to California to battle wildfires

Firefighters around San Antonio and the state are stepping in to help in the battle against wildfires in California.

A team of firefighters from Boerne, New Braunfels, Canyon Lake, Schertz, and Pharr were deployed to California on Saturday.

The deployment of firefighters reflects an effort to provide support where the need is critical.

So far, thousands of homes have been destroyed. According to an Associated Press report, 16 people have been killed as the wildfires continue to ravage California.

Several other Texas state agencies are also contributing to the effort, including the Texas Division of Emergency Management and the Texas A&M Forest Service.

The mission highlights the role of collaboration in responding to large-scale emergencies as firefighters unite across state lines to protect lives.
