A New Braunfels High School student is proving with love, determination and passion you can accomplish a lot.

The New Braunfels Canyon softball team carries their undefeated record into the Class 5A Regional Final against district rival Smithson Valley, and although they swept the Rangers in the regular season, the Cougarettes aren't worried about remaining unbeaten. They simply want to play the best they can and win.

Thanks to their thrilling Game 3 victory over O'Connor on Saturday afternoon, the East Central softball team joins Boerne, New Braunfels Canyon, Smithson Valley and Jourdanton in the Regional Finals this week. Meanwhile, defending Class 1A State champs D'Hanis have already punched their tickets to Austin with a Regional Final sweep of Slocum.

Highlights from Friday night's Regional Semifinal action, as East Central forces a decisive Game 3 with a 7-0 victory over O'Connor in Class 6A, and New Braunfels Canyon takes down Corpus Christi Flour Bluff in a one-game Class 5A playoff 8-1.

The UIL State Track & Field Championships concluded on Saturday evening with Class 6A and 1A competition at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, and East Central's Michael Pinones and Brandeis' Rafe Clendenin are bringing state titles back to the San Antonio area.
