SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Police Department arrested a man who officers said used social media to target, kidnap and sexually abuse a woman.
Police took Jamie Ray Rencher, 47, into custody on Dec. 31, 2024, and charged him with aggravated kidnapping with intent to sexually abuse, according to an SAPD news release.
Authorities said Rencher used a social media app to get in contact with the victim and schedule an in-person meeting in the Houston area. After he met the victim, officers said Rencher destroyed the victim’s phone, tied her up and sexually assaulted her.
San Antonio police said Rencher then transported the woman back to San Antonio with the intent to keep the victim hidden. However, the woman was able to escape and find help, the news release stated.
Court documents indicate that Rencher’s aggravated kidnapping with intent to sexually abuse charge is a first-degree felony. SAPD said additional charges could be filed against Rencher.
Investigators said there could be more victims connected to Rencher. SAPD said its investigation is ongoing.
Rencher was booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center just after 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 1.
A Bexar County judge set Rencher’s bond at $250,000, court records indicate.
The Alamo Area Rape Crisis Center said coming forward can be a difficult process for victims of sexual assault.
Lauren Aguillon, the digital media and community outreach coordinator at the center, said victims should remember it takes time.
“You’re never alone,” Aguillon said. “You can always contact us even if you’re not ready to get any help or services. Maybe you just need someone to talk to.”
