Its logo features a picture of a pygmy hippo in the likeness of Moo Deng, the internet sensation who’s made waves this year for her cute and sassy personality.
According to a post on the restaurant’s Facebook, Moo Deng Thai Restaurant was started by the former owner of Tiger Wings and Chongco Thai.
Tiger Wings used to be open in the 8200 block of Broadway, according to its Facebook page, which last posted in 2022.
The restaurant’s owner talked about why they returned to the restaurant business in the post, one of the reasons being missing their Pad Thai.
When the decision was made to return to the restaurant business, the owner cited Moo Deng as an inspiration.
“I named my new restaurant after her, the small yet sturdy hippo, a symbol of resilience and quiet strength,” the post reads, in part.
It will feature a “modest, intimate space” with “comforting, flavorful Thai dishes,” both from their former restaurants and new ones with a twist, the statement said.

While the restaurant had a soft opening on Dec. 9, a post on its social media announced a temporary closure due to emergency maintenance.
