FORECAST
Happy weekend! Plenty to talk about in the near term with noticeable changes arriving by Sunday and especially into early next week. Here’s the latest:
THIS WEEKEND
After a chilly morning, plenty of sunshine will be found on Saturday, helping high temperatures warm into the mid-60s.
Don’t get used to it, though, for another round of Arctic air will spill into South Central Texas tonight. Lows drop into the upper-20s and low-30s by sunrise Sunday with a gusty north wind making it *feel* like the teens and 20s to start the day.
We will still see plenty of sunshine tomorrow, but high temperatures will be in the mid-40s Sunday afternoon, approximately 20 degrees colder.
HARD FREEZE MONDAY MORNING, FRIGID MLK MARCH
With clear skies in place, temperatures will plummet Sunday night with a hard freeze expected by Monday morning.
Expect widespread lows in the mid-20s, with even some upper-teens possible in the Hill Country. Feels-like temperatures in the teens are expected for most of the area by sunrise.
For the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. March, you’ll want to dress very warm with temperatures only in the 30s throughout the event and increasing cloud cover by late morning.
WINTRY MIX CHANCES INCREASING BY MONDAY NIGHT
While moisture will be limited and impacts will likely be relatively minor, a light wintry mix remains possible Monday evening through 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Odds currently favor a light mix of rain, sleet, freezing rain, and a few snowflakes, but know that accumulations appear limited. Up to approximately 0.1″ of icing is possible on elevated surfaces (bridges, overpasses, street signs, decks), and about a dusting of snow. Any precipitation would come to an end by early Tuesday afternoon.
As far as intensity and exactly what type of precipitation will fall where still remains uncertain, as moisture could potentially be drawn southeast away from us. We’ll keep you posted as we pinpoint the exact details over the next 24-48 hours.
MORE COLD MORNINGS
While any precipitation moves out by Tuesday afternoon, hard freezes continue through Wednesday morning. You’ll want to make sure that people, pets, plants and pipes are all prepped before the weekend is over.
More updates to come! Until then, have a great and safe weekend.
