SCHERTZ, Texas – (UPDATE at 10:00 PM): No candidate in the race for Place 4 on the Schertz City Council has met the majority threshold of votes tallied to win, according to city officials.
The Guadalupe County Early Voting Ballot Board will soon meet to finalize the unofficial voting numbers. If no candidate receives the majority vote at that time, the top two candidates will meet in a runoff election.

Timothy Dusek currently leads with 29 percentage points, which is more than the four other candidates in the race. Benjamin Guerrero is the next closest with 22 percentage points.
In all, five candidates are on the ballot: self-employed consultant Dusek, contract specialist Guerrero, freelance artist Heather Stamper, retired veteran Tyrone Taylor and Paula Del Toro, who works in real estate.
Editors note: KSAT initially reported that Dusek was the projected winner of the race, but City of Schertz officials said none of the candidates have received the majority vote.
BACKGROUND: In September, Tiffany Gibson, who was elected in 2023, resigned from her Place 4 seat on the Schertz City Council due to health and family reasons.
Gibson’s resignation came after the deadline to file for the Nov. 5 election. As a result, a special election was set for Dec. 14.
The winner of Saturday’s election will serve the remainder of the term, which expires in 2026.
The candidates participated in an online question and answer session to discuss why they are the best person for the job and what the vision for their growing city looks like.
Out of the five names on the ballot, Taylor is the only one who has previously sought office in Schertz.
Taylor ran in the 2023 election for the Place 3 city council seat. He lost to Paul Macaluso.
