Vendors confident Cinco de Mayo festivities at Market Square will be tamer than Fiesta
Amid the violence seen last weekend during Fiesta De Los Reyes at Market Square, vendors are cautiously preparing for the upcoming Cinco De Mayo celebration, but many say theyโre confident this weekend wonโt be similar what happened during Fiesta.

San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg said heโs angry that state leaders continue to make it easy for dangerous people to access weapons after two men shot and killed each other during the Fiesta De Los Reyes event at Market Square over the weekend. Despite the gun violence, the mayor assures the public that โFiesta is safe.โ

Pop-up Mercado now open at Market Square
If youโve visited Market Square in the past few days, you probably noticed that the indoor Farmers Market Plaza is closed. We did reopen.โIn less than a week, small business owners from the Farmers Market Plaza made the move down the Market Square corridor to settle into the Centro de Artes building at 101 S. Santa Rosa for the Pop-Up Mercado. Theyโve been advertising and put up this Pop-Up Mercado for us. Pop-up Mercado now open at Market Square inside the Centro de Artes building at 101 S. Santa Rosa (Copyright 2020 by KSAT - All rights reserved.) The Pop-Up Mercado will be open four days a week beginning on Thursday.
Market Square adding pop-up farmers market at beginning of 2021 with plaza building temporarily closing
(Photo by Robert Alexander/Getty Images)SAN ANTONIO โ A pop-up mercado at Market Square will open up at the beginning of 2021 as the Farmers Market Plaza Building will temporarily close for repairs and maintenance. Starting on Jan. 7, more than 25 businesses from the Farmers Market Plaza will head to the Centro de Artes building at 101 S. Santa Rosa for three months. The pop-up mercado will be open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturdays and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Sundays. The Farmers Market Plaza Building will close on Jan. 2 and reopen sometime in the spring, according to the Center City Development and Operations Department. The rest of the shops and restaurants in Market Square will stay open during that time.

We recognize that the COVID-19 pandemic is not likely to subside sufficiently at any time in 2020," event organizers said in a written statement. My calendar is marked for April 15-25, 2021, when we will celebrate the 130th anniversary of the first Fiesta," said San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg in a tweet. San Antonioโs Market Square reopens to public with modified hours
SAN ANTONIO โ Market Square has reopened after several weeks of being closed due to the stay-home orders amid the coronavirus pandemic. Its modified hours of operation will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. About 100 small family-owned businesses operate out of the Farmers Market building and El Mercado, officials said. Officials said tenants were encouraged to take a pledge to ensure the safety of employees and customers. Market Square will be closed Mondays and Tuesdays until further notice.
Mi Tierra making big changes to keep customers safe as it prepares to reopen Wednesday
SAN ANTONIO โ Some big changes are in store at Mi Tierra as staff members work to get the restaurant as clean as possible before reopening on Wednesday. Gerardo Carbajal, manager of Mi Tierra, said the building has been cleaned from top to bottom. "If you come to Mi Tierra, you see we're known for all the decorations and the culture that goes through the walls of Mi Tierra. Instead, customers will find a QR code, where they can access the menu through their smartphone. All these steps are to help protect customers in what the restaurant owners are calling the new normal.

Lineup announced for 4-day Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair at SAโs Market Square
SAN ANTONIO โ More than 200 bands from the U.S. and Mexico will hit up San Antonioโs iconic Market Square for the Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair in March. The lineup for the festival, set for March 12-15, was released Monday morning and includes local favorites like Shelly Lares and Ram Herrera. The free event, expected to bring in more than 150,000 fans, will run from noon-11 p.m. daily. Tejano singer Ram Herrera shares emotional message to fans from hospital bedHerrera, who has won numerous awards throughout his career, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Tejano Music Association, said he was โgoing to pull through" and โbe back to work soon.โThe โTejano music event of the year" is held annually before the Tejano Music Awards Show, which will mark 40 years in 2020. The awards show will take place in November, but the exact time and place have not been released.

SAN ANTONIO โ National Margarita Day is a day for slow-sipping. To honor the chill holiday, La Familia Cortez, the family behind Mi Tierra, La Margarita and Pico de Gallo, is hosting a Margarita Y Musica 0.5K at Market Square on Saturday. The family is calling it a โfun-(not)-run,โ and thatโs because a short stroll will lead to five mini-margaritas from each La Familia Cortez restaurant. Where to grab a margarita in San Antonio on National Margarita DayTicket prices are $25 for one runner or $40 for two, and they can be purchased online. Packets, including a race map, can be picked up starting at 4 p.m. at La Margarita, 120 Produce Row.
