Grandmother starts organization in honor of grandchild killed on Motherโs Day
A San Antonio grandmother is keeping her granddaughterโs spirit alive through a non-profit organization she started in her honor. Her granddaughter, Saryah Perez, 6, was shot and killed during a car meet during what San Antonio police say was a dispute on Motherโs Day.
Schertz police warn about risks of having bumper stickers, decals
SCHERTZ, Texas โ The Schertz Police Department is raising awareness about the use of bumper stickers and decals to encourage residents to better protect their personal information. Anna Kraft, the special project officer for Schertz PD, said the department has seen bumper stickers that could give too much information to criminals. โSome people may think it is harmless and that it is just a bumper sticker, but some criminals may actually take advantage of that,โ Kraft said. โWe just want to bring the awareness so people can watch for their surroundings and watch what they are giving to the public. โEverybody deserves to be proud and show your proudness of their families and kids, what their husband or wife does,โ Kraft said.
San Antonio ministry holds homicide awareness event in honor of loved ones killed in past years
SAN ANTONIO โ A San Antonio ministry held its annual homicide awareness event Saturday honoring the loved ones lost to solved and unsolved homicide cases. God Sees Your Tears Ministry held the event, calling it a โDay of Remembrance, Light of Hopeโ at Kingsborough Ridge Baptist Church. You are taking a life,โ Salazar said. When that young man took the life of my son, he took my life and the life of my children. We know the journey they are taking and we know the pain.โSalazar said she believes the event will help others find peace, while also raising awareness about homicide.

San Antonio โ A Steele High School junior with a visual impairment is hoping her story will encourage others to overcome their obstacles in life. Jazmine Harper, 16, has always been visually impaired since she was born, but was diagnosed with glaucoma at age 8. Jazmine Harper is in Girl Scouts, on multiple swim teams, the marching band and the orchestra. AdโShe found that a lot of it was that people just donโt understand it,โ Jennifer Harper said. โEverybody has their own battles, so donโt let yours stop what you are trying to accomplish,โ Jazmine Harper said.
Filmmaker brings documentary on El Paso mass shooting to San Antonio
San Antonio โ After years of hard work and passion, a filmmaker is bringing his documentary, 915: Hunting Hispanics, to the big screens here in San Antonio in honor of those impacted by the August 3 mass shooting in El Paso. โA racist killer from Dallas drove 10 hours to El Paso because of his extreme detest for Mexican people,โ said Charlie Minn, the director. This outsider came into the beautiful city of El Paso and created evil and left a permanent scar that will forever be attached to the city.โAuthorities said the shooter shot 46 people, killing 23. Let me go do the same thing.โ Why would I give them that opportunity.โThe film premiered in El Paso on Oct. 8 and will be showcased in San Antonio Friday, Oct. 23.
