Top-ranked Judson Rockets defeat Steele Knights in huge district matchup

The Rockets could clinch a district title with a win against San Marcos on Friday night

The Judson Rockets are not only the top-ranked UIL Class 6A girls' basketball team in Texas, but they also lead the District 29-6A standings.

On Tuesday, the Rockets hosted the Steele Knights, the third-ranked team in the district and the 21st in Class 6A.

After a battle in the first half, the Rockets pulled away and beat Steele 51-36. The win puts the Rockets in a good position to clinch the district title outright when they play San Marcos on the road on Friday night.

“I think the last two years we split with Steele, and I told him (Steele Head Coach Eugene Pena) at least we don’t get to see him anymore, four times is enough, they’re Division I in the playoffs, we’re Division II,” said Judson Head Girls Basketball Coach Christina Camacho.

The Rockets' senior guard Kayla King shared what she thinks the team needs to work on as they move closer to the playoffs.

“Just coming out strong because sometimes we’ll start slow and come out strong in the second half, but playing strong the whole game and knowing that we are dogs, we don’t have to play low to our competition and knowing who we are,” said King.
