Smithson Valley head coach Larry Hill named winner of Navy All-American Bowl Coach of the Year award

Hill was one of five semifinalists up for consideration

SAN ANTONIO – If the last few weeks are any indication, Smithson Valley head coach Larry Hill may have to make more room in his trophy case.

Hill was named the winner of the 2024 Navy All-American Bowl Coach of the Year award on Friday.

Hill was one of five semifinalists up for the award. The other finalists were:

  • Teddy Bridgewater, Miami Northwestern Senior High School, Miami, Florida
  • Ray Gates, North Crowley High School, Fort Worth, Texas
  • Raul Lara, Mater Dei High School, Santa Ana, California
  • Ben Reaves Jr., Milton High School, Milton, Georgia

The national recognition comes weeks after Hill coached the Smithson Valley Rangers to a 14-2 record and the school’s first-ever UIL Class 5A Division I title in 2024.

Hill will take the Alamodome field as the head coach for the West Team at Saturday’s 2025 Navy All-American Bowl. Kickoff is set for noon.
