SAN ANTONIO – The Southwest Dragons have dominated their matches on the court, but they’ve done much of the same inside the classroom.
The entire Dragons team was also named to the academic all-district team.
“It’s really cool,” Dragons outside hitter Addison Bartlett said. “We always say we’re students before we’re athletes, so I expected it from them.”
“It sets a huge standard, and it’s great for the girls coming up and for the girls leaving to show that this is what we’re capable of,” Southwest senior middle Alyssa Curd said. “And we can be great, and we can do so much more.”
While the seniors are still deciding where they want to take their talents to the next level, they told KSAT which majors their interested in studying.
“I’m hoping to go into education, but I’m still talking to a few schools and seeing where it’s going to take me,” said Bartlett.
“I’m thinking of education or business, so that should be my major,” said Curd. “I love to bake, and I love to sell. And that’s just my passion, out(side) of volleyball.”
“We really push to make them great individuals when they’re here at Southwest, but further on — when they leave here — we want them to be great young ladies," Southwest Volleyball head coach Catherine Cortez. “And they really push for that.”
