ME’s office identifies man who suffered medical episode, died in crash on I-35 near downtown

Victim identified as 60-year-old Raul Felipe Nunez

SAN ANTONIO – The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a man who suffered a medical episode and died in a crash on Monday afternoon near downtown San Antonio.

The crash occurred around 3:45 p.m. in the southbound lanes in the 1100 block of I-35 near the exit for St. Mary’s Street.

The ME’s office identified the man as 60-year-old Raul Felipe Nunez.

His cause of death was atac vascular cardiac disease, according to the ME’s office. The manner of death was unknown.

According to police, Nunez suffered a medical episode before crashing his car into nearby traffic barrels and scraping the concrete barrier.

When responding officers arrived, they located Nunez unconscious in the driver’s seat. After attempting life-saving measures, Nunez was pronounced dead just before 4:20 p.m.

The upper-level lanes of the highway were closed while investigators cleared the scene.
