SAN ANTONIO – Two teens were arrested after an incident on St. Mary’s University’s campus, according to San Antonio police.
SAPD said that the incident originated as a traffic stop around 2:45 p.m. in the 3400 block of West Woodlawn Avenue, which is located just north of the university’s campus.
During the traffic stop, authorities said a 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old man left the vehicle and fled on foot.
An 18-year-old man remained in the vehicle, police said.
According to SAPD, both men who fled from the vehicle had handguns and fled south through the campus.
The man who remained in the vehicle was also armed with a gun, according to police.
Officers established a perimeter. SAPD’s Eagle Helicopter and the department’s K-9 assisted in the search for the suspects.
Officers located the 19-year-old man at the Maiden Lane and Havana Drive intersection and arrested him without further incident, SAPD said. He faces evading arrest and possession of marijuana charges, according to police.
Police said the 18-year-old man was arrested for unlawful carrying of a weapon.
The 20-year-old man remains on the run. However, police said his gun — which could be converted to fully automatic — was found under a vehicle in the parking lot of St. Mary’s University’s campus.
St. Mary’s University sent the following statement to KSAT on Wednesday afternoon:
“Law enforcement, in cooperation with University Police, has apprehended individuals who came onto campus. You will continue to notice a heavier police presence in the area and on campus to ensure the safety of our community. Continue to remain alert until the situation is fully resolved.”
