Man arrested, charged with intoxication manslaughter after hitting bicyclist with vehicle on Northeast Side, police say

The crash happened in the 12800 block of O’Connor Road near Nacogdoches Road

SAN ANTONIO – A 34-year-old man was arrested after fatally striking a bicyclist on the Northeast Side, according to San Antonio police.

The incident happened around 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the 12800 block of O’Connor Road.

Police said the bicyclist was on the edge of northbound lanes when the driver of a Nissan Pathfinder went off the road.

The driver of the Nissan Pathfinder ultimately struck the bicyclist, according to police.

SAPD said that the bicyclist, believed to be a male in his 40s or 50s, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The victim was later pronounced dead.

The Nissan Pathfinder driver displayed signs of being under the influence of alcohol and was arrested for intoxication manslaughter, according to police.

Initially, San Antonio police said a vehicle rear-ended the Nissan Pathfinder, which caused the vehicle to swerve off the road and hit the bicyclist.

An updated preliminary report from SAPD did not mention the vehicle that allegedly rear-ended the Nissan Pathfinder.

SAPD said there was a dashcam video of the crash in one of the vehicles involved.

This is a developing story. KSAT will update this as we learn more.
