Original: A father and his young son were found dead in a suspected murder-suicide at Phil Hardberger Park, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

Authorities found the 34-year-old father dead inside a vehicle along with his son, who is between 1 and 2 years old, just after 8 p.m. Wednesday in a parking lot in the 13000 block of Blanco Road, SAPD spokesman Ricardo Guzman said at the scene.

The man called a family member and told them if they didn’t get to the park, something might happen to the child, Guzman said.

When officers arrived at the park, the father and child were both found dead, Guzman said. The father had a stab wound to the torso.

The cause of the child’s death was not immediately clear, Guzman said.

“Possible foul play is expected at this time,” Guzman said, noting preliminary info suggests it was a murder-suicide.

Police are investigating a possible motive. Guzman said they’re unsure how much time passed between the phone call to the family member and the call to police.

The investigation is ongoing.
