Man found not guilty of aggravated assault in case related to 2022 murder

Shooting happened on Sept. 9, 2022, in the 2600 block of Westward Drive

SAN ANTONIO*Editor’s Note: Wednesday’s trial was not for the murder charge Javon Hardaway faces but for the second charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for which he was found not guilty.

The trial of a man charged in connection with a 2022 murder on the West Side began Wednesday, but it was not for the murder charge. The trial was for the second charge he faced related to this case — aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Javon Hardaway, 30, was arrested for his involvement in the shooting death of a man in the 2600 block of Westward Drive on Sept. 9, 2022.

Carlos Madrazo, 33, died after Hardaway and four other men rushed into the apartment armed with a gun.

Madrazo attempted to swat at the gun but was instead shot multiple times. He died on the way to the hospital.

Witnesses helped police identify the four suspects, who were all subsequently arrested over several months. The other three suspects were between 18 and 19 years old at the time of their arrests.

Hardaway, 28 years old at the time of his arrest, was arrested by San Antonio police in December 2022.

Bexar County court records indicate Hardaway was arrested on murder and aggravated assault with deadly weapon charges.

A jury on Wednesday, found Hardaway not guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. It’s unclear with the state will take Hardaway on trial for the murder charge.

Since this incident Hardaway has picked up two separate charges in unrelated cases.
