‘They’re my best friends’: Family pleads for safe return of stolen French bulldogs

Chewy and Nova were taken from the Isaac family’s backyard on Feb. 1

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio family is desperately seeking the return of two French bulldogs that were stolen from their backyard earlier this month.

The two stolen dogs — Chewy, a puppy, and his mother, Nova — have been part of the Isaac family for years.

Since being taken on Feb. 1, the family said they fear the dogs have been sold or separated.

The thefts occurred while the family was celebrating the birthday of Celene Isaac’s 15-year-old son.

Isaac said she has struggled with the loss, and it has been painful to see the dogs' belongings, such as their beds and toys, still around the house.

“You hear all these stories about how Frenchies get sold or taken,” Isaac said. “My mind is just racing, and I’m thinking I’m not going to get them back.”

Isaac has filed a police report with the San Antonio Police Department, and though she said she believes she knows who took the dogs, SAPD has not confirmed any suspects.

The family has also used social media to offer a reward for the dogs’ return, but Isaac said the responses have been mostly harmful.

“People calling me and telling me that I have to give them this much money or they’re going to separate them or they’re going to kill them,” she said.

Despite the challenges, the Isaac family remains hopeful.

“I just miss having Chewy to do anything and Nova.” Isaac said. “These are stolen dogs; they have a home and people who miss them.”

Jennifer, Isaac’s 9-year-old daughter, expressed the emotional toll the theft has had on her.

“They’re not money, they’re family, and they’re my best friends,” she said.

The SAPD investigation is ongoing. If caught, the individuals responsible could face theft charges, which have been elevated to a state jail felony.

The Isaac family has said they would drop the charges if the dogs were returned together unharmed.
