Retrial of Guadalupe Contreras, man accused of murdering his wife, continues Tuesday

Contreras faces up to life in prison if found guilty

SAN ANTONIO – Day 4 in the retrial for a Bexar County man accused of the murder of his estranged wife will continue on Tuesday afternoon.

Day 4 coverage of the trial is expected to restart at 1 p.m. Tuesday on KSAT.com, the free KSAT+ streaming app and KSAT’s YouTube channel.

Guadalupe Contreras was arrested and charged with murder after Elizabeth Contreras’ body was found in a field off Old Corpus Christi Road.

According to an arrest affidavit, authorities described the case as “a dangerous love affair that ended with homicide.”

In 2017, investigators said they used Elizabeth Contreras’ cellphone data and Guadalupe Contreras’ GPS data from his delivery truck to determine what happened.

In 2023, Guadalupe Contreras went to trial, but it ended in a mistrial when the defense learned about more evidence that was mistakenly erased by San Antonio police.

After an appeal to prevent a retrial was denied, the case was set again in the 379th District Court.

During Day 3 of the trial on Monday, the clothing Guadalupe Contreras was wearing the night he alleged he killed Elizabeth Contreras was shown to the jury.

During his first trial, it was revealed that the shirt contained Elizabeth Contreras’ blood.

If convicted, Contreras could face up to life in prison.
