Street racing believed to be cause of four-vehicle crash on North Side, SAPD says

Three people taken to hospital

SAN ANTONIO – Street racing was believed to be the cause of a four-vehicle crash on the North Side, according to San Antonio police.

The crash happened just before 10 p.m. Sunday in the 7000 block of San Pedro Avenue.

A preliminary report from SAPD said the suspect, a 24-year-old man, was driving south on San Pedro and racing another vehicle.

At one point, the suspect veered to miss a vehicle in the center turn lane but collided with it. The suspect’s vehicle then crashed into a vehicle in the northbound lanes, the report said.

A woman in one of the cars racing was taken to the hospital with a broken leg, police said.

Meanwhile, a woman and her husband in one of the cars that were not racing were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police did not indicate specific charges for the driver but said they could come as the investigation progresses. SAPD previously said the driver fled the scene; however, a follow-up email clarified that the man had stayed at the scene.
