San Marcos police identify suspect in connection with homicide near Hill Country park

SAN MARCOS, TexasUPDATED AT 7:44 P.M.: In a social media post, the San Marcos Police Department identified a suspect in connection with a Friday afternoon homicide.

Authorities believe Juan Manuel Yanez, 47, is a suspect in Friday’s homicide investigation. They are asking for the public’s help in tracking Yanez down.

San Marcos police officers said Yanez drives a silver 2009 Chevrolet truck with the Texas license plate NSX8637.

Anyone with information regarding Yanez’s whereabouts is asked to call 911, SMPD Detective Logan Murphy at 512-754-2288 or call the San Marcos Police Department directly at 512-753-2108.

ORIGINAL STORY: The San Marcos Police Department said it is investigating a homicide near Stokes Park on Friday afternoon.

The incident happened around 4 p.m. in the 800 block of River Road in San Marcos.

San Marcos police said they do not have anyone in custody. However, officials believe the person involved has a relationship with the victim.

Authorities said San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District bus routes will experience significant delays.

“Out of an abundance of caution, SMCISD is asking all families to arrange alternative transportation and pick up your student(s) from their respective campuses, if possible,” the post stated, in part.

San Marcos police updated its post at 4:40 p.m. and said there is no shelter in place.

Officials urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
