Shooting suspect turns himself in, San Marcos police say
SAN MARCOS โ A 17-year-old San Marcos man is facing two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with a shooting in late January. Octavius Garner turned himself in on Feb. 16, according to a news release from the San Marcos Police Department. Garner is believed to be responsible for a Jan. 30. shooting at a mobile home park in the Whispering Oaks Community, located at 503 Uhland Road. Investigators say the two men were sitting inside a parked car with Garner when an argument broke out. Police say Garner then pulled out a handgun and began shooting.

SAN MARCOS, Texas โ The San Marcos Police Department is requesting the publicโs help in identifying and locating an aggravated robbery suspect. Police say the robbery happened on Dec. 11 at the Spirit Pit Stop, located at 1214 Interstate Highway 25 South. Officers say a man wandered around the store and waited for customers to leave before approaching the counter as if he was making a purchase. The man then produced a handgun from his hoodie pocket and pointed it at the store clerk, police said. The man left on foot behind the business after he took cash from the store clerk.

San Marcos announces former police chief of Abilene to head department

SAN MARCOS, Texas โ Lee esto en espaรฑol. The San Marcos Police Department is asking for the communityโs input on its current use of force policy. The new citizenโs advisory committee will be made up of residents from San Marcos who will be tasked with providing feedback to SMPD. โThis ad-hoc committee is just a more formalized way of doing that, looking at our use of force policies and providing some feedback,โ Klett said. San Marcos City Council will choose the members in early October.

San Marcos police give update on officer struck by vehicle in March
SAN MARCOS, Texas โ Officials with the San Marcos Police Department released a statement Tuesday about officer Paul Beller who was struck by a vehicle while responding to a call on I-35 back in March. Beller โis still undergoing intense rehabilitation therapy in Houston, and is making improvements every weekโ according to a Facebook post from SMPD officials. โOfficer Beller is walking, with the assistance of a walking boot, able to speak and is coherent, and is working on regaining functionality of portions of the left side of his body,โ the post reads in part. San Marcos police officer recovering after being struck by vehicle on highway, officials sayBeller was dispatched around 1:30 p.m. on March 23 near I-35 North near Exit 205 B for a call of lumber in the roadway when he was hit by a car while exiting his vehicle. No information about the person who struck Officer Beller has been released.

Driver of pickup truck hit, killed by train in San Marcos
SAN MARCOS, Texas The driver of a pickup truck was hit and killed by a train Sunday morning in San Marcos, the San Marcos Police Department said. Joe Antonio Quintero Sr., 80, was driving a red 2006 Toyota Tundra pickup truck around 9 a.m. when he was hit and killed by a train at the McCarthy Lane railroad track intersection. Witnesses told police that the train crossing arms were down when the truck went through the intersection. Initial reports showed that all components of the crossing arms were functioning properly, police said. The SMPD Collision Investigation Team is now working with Amtrak to investigate the collision.

San Marcos Police Association holds fundraiser for officers wounded in the line of duty
Giving back to those that risk their lives that was the goal behind the San Marcos Police Associations fundraiser to raise money for a fallen officer and two others wounded in the line of duty. SAN MARCOS, Texas The San Marcos Police Department is searching for a vehicle and the driver who hit and killed a 41-year-old man Monday night and fled the scene. Suspect arrested in hit-and-run death of San Antonio manThomas was transported to Ascension Seton Hays Hospital in Kyle, where he died. The other man who was walking with Thomas wasnt injured. The vehicle fled the scene going toward San Marcos on Post Road, police said. The vehicle is missing the right-front-side turn signal housing and possibly has the front right headlight broken out as well.
