Huizar was hanging out with Campos, a family member and another man on Jan. 1 in the 100 block of Paso Chico Alley. The family member left for a few minutes and returned to find Huizar on the ground with a gunshot wound, the warrant says.

The family member told police they saw Campos running from the scene.

According to the warrant, the family member told officers that Campos had engaged in a “verbal disturbance” with Huizar before the shooting and heard him say, “I’m a goon, bro; I get active all day.”

A nearby witness told officers they heard Campos tell Huizar, “This is my block, and you aren’t supposed to be here.” They also said Campos concealed a firearm in his pants as he fled, the warrant says.

Campos' bond is set at $200,000. His pre-indictment hearing is set for April 7, court records show.

Original story:

A man who had been critically injured in a shooting on the West Side had died, according to a preliminary report from SAPD.

Officers were dispatched to the shooting around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Paso Chico Alley, which is located south of the intersection of Merida Street and South Brazos Street.

According to SAPD, a man in his 30s was found on the ground. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as Jason Huizar, 32.

Witnesses told police that the suspect, who is possibly in his 30s, fled south of the crime scene toward South Brazos Street.

Officers later detained a person for a felony warrant matching the suspect’s description; however, police confirmed in their Thursday report the person was not connected to the shooting.
