SAN ANTONIO – An 18-year-old has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault after an initial charge of murder, according to two arrest affidavits obtained by KSAT.
Avory Michael Rowe is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the incidents that took place around Christmas last year.
Both incidents occurred in under a day. Around the same time, he was arrested and charged in connection with the murder of 49-year-old Robert Ibarra.
Murder of Robert Ibarra
On the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 24, San Antonio police found Ibarra’s body along the Alazan Creek Trail near the intersection of San Jacinto and West Martin streets.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by KSAT, Ibarra was found with severe head trauma near a rock with blood on it, which is believed to be the cause of the injuries to the victim.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner said Ibarra died from blunt force injuries and manual strangulation.
The affidavit further stated Rowe — whose last reported address was 1 Haven for Hope Way — confessed to killing Robert Ibarra on Dec. 26 to a bunkmate at Haven for Hope.
The bunkmate told SAPD that Rowe woke him up to tell him what he had done.
Rowe went into further detail with the bunkmate, saying he used a “big rock” to hit Ibarra repeatedly and that hitting him “felt good,” the affidavit stated.
The SAPD detective assigned to this case wrote that he learned a pair of jeans covered in blood was found inside Rowe’s Haven for Hope locker after a search.
In a Facebook post on Dec. 27, just after 2 p.m., SAPD asked the public for help searching for Rowe and included two images of him.
Later that same night, police said Rowe had been arrested.
Quintana Road assault on Dec. 24
Rowe’s first victim is believed to be a 54-year-old man, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by KSAT on Friday.
The victim told SAPD he encountered Rowe on Christmas Eve at his workplace near the 8600 block of Quintana Road.
According to the affidavit, the victim was headed to his vehicle around 3:30 a.m. when he said Rowe walked up to him and began speaking to him in a language he couldn’t understand.
The victim said he asked Rowe if he was speaking French, to which Rowe replied, “Yeah...French.”
Rowe then became angry and began hitting the victim several times on the head with an unidentified object. The victim said he believed it was a rock, according to the affidavit.
The man pushed Rowe to the ground and was able to get into his vehicle. He said the suspect screamed at him as he drove away.
As a result of the stack, the victim sustained injuries that resulted in a concussion and scarring, the affidavit said.
The man identified Rowe to police through SAPD’s Dec. 27 Facebook post. On Jan. 6, 2025, the victim gave a statement to police and again identified Rowe as the person who attacked him.
Attempted stabbing on Christmas Day
Rowe was also identified as the person involved in an attempted stabbing at an apartment complex in the 5000 block of Fredericksburg Road on Christmas Day.
The 21-year-old victim told SAPD she was at her apartment when two men arrived with her roommate.
The affidavit identified one of the men as the roommate’s boyfriend, while the other was simply known as “Avory.”
The victim said she conversed with Rowe for about an hour before going to bed. While falling asleep, the victim said she felt a pain under her chin and realized Rowe was holding a knife to her throat, according to the affidavit.
The woman was able to grab Rowe’s arm and push him away just as he was pressing the knife against her skin. She then screamed for help as Rowe ran away.
Police were called, and the woman was treated for a minor cut.
However, Rowe was not identified at the time, as the roommate and the boyfriend did not know his full name.
Later, the victim also came forward to police after seeing the Dec. 27 Facebook post and helped identify Rowe.
Jail records indicate that Rowe has been charged with murder.
A Bexar County judge set Rowe’s bond for the murder charge at $250,000 and $200,000 each for the counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The judge has also imposed special conditions on Rowe if he were to bond out. Those conditions are possession or use of firearms, as well as a full house arrest with GPS.
