SAN ANTONIO – This weekend, a month-long celebration returns to San Antonio, honoring the rich contributions of African Americans to the city and nation.

Places across the Alamo City will host film series, exhibits, Black History tours and more to honor the celebration.

Here’s a look at this year’s Black History Month events:

  • ART MARKET AT LA VILLITA: The San Antonio African American Community Archive & Museum (SAAACAM) will host its second annual Black History Month Art Market from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 22 at 218 S. Presa St. This year’s theme is “African Americans and Labor.” More information can be found online.
  • BLACK COWBOYS: AN AMERICAN STORY: The Witte Museum will have its “Black Cowboys: An American Story” exhibit open until Feb. 9. The event is included with museum admission.
  • BLACK HISTORY FILM SERIES: SAAACAM will host “Miles of Smiles” in its Black History Film Series. The free event will be held from 6-8:30 p.m. on Feb. 7 at the Carver Community Cultural Center, located at 226 N. Hackberry St. Registration is required to attend.
  • BLACK HISTORY RIVER TOUR: SAAACAM will host three 100-minute cruises through the San Antonio River Walk during Black History Month. The first tour will be from 8:45 to 11 a.m. on Feb. 8, while the second tour will be at the same time on Feb. 15. The third tour will be from 10:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 1. Participants will meet at 218 S. Presa St. in La Villita for all tours. Tickets for the Feb. 8 tour are available here, tickets for the Feb. 15 tour can be found online and March 1 tickets can be found here.
  • BLACK RESTAURANT WEEK SAN ANTONIO: Black Restaurant Week celebrates the contributions of Black-owned restaurants, food trucks and more. Dates and participating restaurants have not yet been announced.
  • SAPL MOVIE TIME: The San Antonio Public Library will host a free movie screening for “Marley” from 2-4 p.m. on Feb. 9 at the Collins Garden Library.
  • ONE BEAT: YOGA & DRUM CIRCLE: The McNay Art Museum will host a free yoga event from 6-7 p.m. on Feb. 13 at the Leeper Auditorium. Click here to register for the event.
  • SAPL BLACK HISTORY MONTH FILM SERIES: The San Antonio Public Library will host a movie screening of “Drumline” from 3-5 p.m. at Encino Library. Seats are on a first-come, first-served basis. The library is located at 2515 E. Evans Road.
  • WALK ON THE RIVER: Attendees can get a chance to watch two unique films that explore the rick history and invaluable contributions of African American people to the city. The event will start at 5 p.m. on Feb. 1 at Rebel Church, located at 15909 San Pedro Ave Suite 105. For more information and tickets, click here.
