SAN ANTONIO – The Alamo Colleges District Board of Trustees has called for a $987 million bond for districtwide improvements including $535 million for new facilities expansion and programming.
A significant portion of the new funding would support the construction of multiple new college campuses across San Antonio — at a time when the district’s existing facilities are bracing for a significant spike in enrollment.

“We’ve grown 30% in the last six years,” Alamo Colleges District Chancellor Mike Flores told me.
The district’s enrollment is expected to reach 88,000 students by August.
“If we were to just grow 5% going forward, we would be at 100,000 students in 2030,” Flores said, noting that a 10% growth rate, which could be more likely, would raise the enrollment to roughly 127,000 students.
Alamo Colleges District leadership is pursuing the development of four new San Antonio campuses including one at Brooks that could support a growing manufacturing hub to the south and would cost approximately $95 million to construct. Another is earmarked for Port San Antonio that could tie into Department of Defense opportunities.
