SAN ANTONIO – A renowned San Antonio chef said he got fired, and now two popular restaurants are closing because of it.
Chef Stefen Bowers took to Facebook on Wednesday night to say he had been fired by the St. Anthony Hotel. His post said Crescent Hotels & Resorts took over control of the hotel.

“They left what was a beautiful, hard working, articulate, caring staff and concept, gutted, slowly bleeding out in Peacock Alley, undignified and alone,” Bowers said in his post.
Bowers also said he was fired days before Christmas but was relieved due to issues that were ongoing at the hotel.
As a result, Rebelle and Haunt restaurants are now both closed. An email obtained by KSAT sent to employees said the location would reopen with a new look and concept.
Bowers served as head chef at Rebelle for nine years.
“I feel it’s my duty to publicly and properly announce what is inevitably the end of a restaurant, that gave its customers the best they had to offer, with the innocent goal of genuine food and hospitality, and nothing else. Because if I don’t, they’ll just quietly lock the doors while no one is paying attention without a peep mentioned about the good that occurred behind them,” said Bowers in the Facebook post.
Rebelle and Haunt restaurants will join an already long list of local restaurants that are closing in 2025.
