BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said one person was shot in an alleged multi-vehicle road rage incident on Saturday morning.
Sheriff Javier Salazar said its deputies were dispatched to the scene of the shooting at approximately 9 a.m. near Southside High School in far south Bexar County.
Southside High School was placed “under temporary lockdown,” but there was no threat to the school, Salazar said during a Saturday afternoon news conference.
According to BCSO, two vehicles traveling southbound on Roosevelt Avenue were engaged in an unspecified “traffic altercation” and soon began chasing each other.
A male driver, believed by BCSO to be in a Hyundai Palisade and identified as the suspect, showed the other vehicle a weapon during their chase.
The driver of the second vehicle, who BCSO described as the victim, struck an unrelated third vehicle, deputies said. The driver of the third vehicle then began chasing the original two vehicles, the sheriff’s office said.
According to BCSO’s investigation, all three vehicles continued chasing each other southbound on Roosevelt Avenue before they pulled over and stopped at an area near Southside High School.
Salazar said the driver of the third vehicle confronted the driver of the second vehicle (victim). Deputies said the driver of the SUV (suspect) then approached both drivers and shot the victim.
The victim was taken to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. No other injuries were reported, the sheriff said on Saturday.
The suspect returned to their vehicle and fled the scene, Salazar said.
On Saturday evening, BCSO shared on its social media page requesting the public’s help in finding the suspect.
The sheriff’s office said the man is believed to be in his 50s and has a mustache and goatee.
