3 hospitalized after East Side house fire, SAFD says

It’s unclear what caused the fire

SAN ANTONIO – Three people were taken to a hospital after a house caught on fire on the East Side, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.

The fire was reported just before 6 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of Zerrcliff Lane near E. Houston Street.

Upon arrival, SAFD said they found a 27-year-old man attempting to assist a 62-year-old woman and an 89-year-old woman.

Fire officials said the man helped locate the two women inside the home.

SAFD said the fire appeared to have started in the man’s bedroom. The fire was sustained in that room, and the rest of the home has smoke damage, fire officials said.

The 62-year-old required CPR at the scene before being transported to the hospital, SAFD said. The 89-year-old woman was taken to the hospital as a precaution due to potential smoke inhalation.

The man sustained cuts while trying to break windows to attempt to assist the two women, who SAFD said were his mother and grandmother.

An exact estimate of damages is currently unknown.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
