SAN ANTONIO – As a military veteran’s charity, Soldiers’ Angels is always looking for opportunities to serve our nation’s heroes.
The destruction caused by the wildfires in Los Angeles has presented circumstances that have affected many California residents, including service members and their families.

“In this case, we’re serving the Los Angeles VA Medical Center and all of the homeless and low-income veterans that were impacted by this wildfire. So for us, it’s really just part of our mission to serve the population that we are set to serve,” said Amy Palmer, CEO and President of Soldiers’ Angels.
Palmer said they’re working with the California National Guard, the Los Angeles Space Force Base, and the Los Angeles VA Medical Center to have direct contact with each agency and to learn what their needs are. This allows Soldiers’ Angels to collect and send items veterans and their families need and get those items exactly where they need to go.
Basic necessities like nonperishable box lunches and hygiene kits were sent out as an initial response, but since then, Palmer said bedding items and cots are among the most critical items needed so people don’t sleep directly on the ground.
“I think one of the important things about this fire is there’s multiple fires burning. And so homeless and low-income veterans and people that have been in their family house for 60, 70 years that really may not have a house payment, but they have reduced income, and they’ve lost everything,” Palmer said.
The quickest way to support service members, veterans, and their families is through a cash donation to Soldiers’ Angels. The money will be used to purchase grocery gift cards, food and hygiene items.
Additionally, the nonprofit has a gift registry through Amazon that allows donors to purchase much-needed items. The items will ship to Soldiers’ Angels’ San Antonio warehouse, be palletized and then shipped to the Los Angeles VA or Los Angeles-area military installations.
For donors who would like to shop locally, items can be delivered to the San Antonio office, 2895 NE Loop 410, Ste. 107, between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
