Flores has over 27 years of experience in law enforcement, according to the release. His leadership background includes overseeing a $25 million budget and holding management positions in patrol, recruiting, community engagement, behavioral health and crime analysis divisions.
In the release, the city highlighted Flores' tourism-focused policing, specifically within Arlington’s sports and entertainment district, which aligns with New Braunfels' needs as a tourist destination.
“Flores’ extensive experience and proven leadership in law enforcement, combined with his passion for community engagement, make him an ideal candidate to lead the New Braunfels Police Department,” said City Manager Robert Camareno. “His ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, coupled with his strategic vision for public safety, will be an asset as we navigate the evolving needs of our community.”
Flores will succeed Chief of Police Keith Lane, who announced in August 2024 that he would resign from his position on Oct. 31, 2024. Assistant Chief of Police David Blevins was selected to serve as interim chief.
Flores' appointment is scheduled to be confirmed by New Braunfels City Council at its Feb. 24 meeting.
