Man arrested, accused of murder in house party shooting, affidavit says

Danny Ugarte Jr., 19, arrested Wednesday

SAN ANTONIO – A man was charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting at a house party last year in southwest Bexar County, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Danny Ugarte Jr., 19, was arrested Wednesday by San Antonio police, according to Bexar County court records.

The arrest stems back to a shooting in the early morning hours of Saturday, Oct. 19. Officers were dispatched to a home in the 5900 block of Lopez Valley Road around 1:30 a.m.

There, they found Enrique Damian Villanueva, 17, lying in the driveway of the home with a gunshot wound to the head.

Villanueva later died from his wounds.

During SAPD’s investigation, officers discovered Villanueva began arguing with someone during the party before the shooting.

The homeowner, at whose residence the party took place, provided investigators with surveillance video of the party, which included audio of the fight, the affidavit said.

Three men turn to Villanueva, and someone can be heard saying, “run that s---.” Ugarte, who was not involved in the fight, drew and pointed a gun at Villanueva before firing once, the affidavit said.

Ugarte and the other men then ran from the scene, police said.

As SAPD continued its investigation, it was later found that information about the party was disseminated across social media, and several of the attendees were from area high schools, according to the affidavit.

SAPD and Crime Stoppers later released images of two possible suspects. Investigators received a tip on Nov. 17 from someone who recognized one of the people in the release. Crime Stoppers received a second tip from someone also confirmed the person’s clothing and movement, the affidavit said.

On Dec. 2, investigators went to Ugarte’s high school and contacted a school administrator who recognized Ugarte’s appearance and identified him in a photo lineup.

The following day, investigators returned to the high school and contacted a second administrator who “immediately recognized” Ugarte and also identified him in a photo lineup, the affidavit said.

It is not immediately clear where Ugarte was arrested.

Ugarte’s bond was set to $150,000 on Thursday, according to court records.
