‘I honestly have given up hope’: A hopeless search for answers in the death of a loved one

Mother searches for clarity five years after her 19-year-old son was shot and killed

SAN ANTONIO – A Northeast Side family is still searching for answers years after their loved one was killed.

Aydin Hoffman, 19, was a Madison High School graduate and a West Texas A&M football player. He was tragically shot and killed on Dec. 30, 2019.

“Ayden was amazing,” Tiffanne Jackson, his mother, said. “We’re just trying to make it through.”

Hoffman was at home spending Christmas with his family when he was shot in his upper torso on O’Connor Road, according to San Antonio police.

It’s still unclear what led to the shooting, but SAPD said Hoffman drove a few blocks away after being shot and crashed his car. He was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center, where he later died.

Jackson has been searching for justice since the day her son was killed. However, she told KSAT that she hasn’t heard much from SAPD over the years.

“I miss him, and I love him so much,” Jackson said. “Justice would be amazing. I would love to see that happen, but I honestly have given up hope.”

While hope is far removed, Hoffman’s memories are here to stay.

“Every year we come [to the cemetery] for his birthday, definitely for his anniversary,” Jackson said. “He was just an amazing kid like everybody he came in contact with. They thought he was his best friend.”
