ME rules death of man found on West Side trail as homicide

Medical examiner’s office identified the victim as Robert Ibarra

SAN ANTONIO – The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man found dead on Christmas Eve under a bridge along a trail on the West Side.

Robert Ibarra, 49, died from blunt force injuries and manual strangulation, according to the medical examiner’s office. His death was ruled as a homicide.

His body was found along the Alazan Creek Trail near the intersection of San Jacinto and West Martin streets, according to a preliminary report from SAPD.

Officers responded to a call about a possible deceased individual at around 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday. Upon arrival, they discovered an unresponsive man under the San Jacinto Street Bridge.

Currently, it is unknown if anyone has been detained or charged for the incident.
