Monkey on the lam captured in San Antonio neighborhood; owners cited by Animal Care Services

Out-of-town owners issued 5 criminal citations

Monkey captured by ACS (Animal Care Service)

SAN ANTONIO – Instead of reindeer up on the housetops in a neighborhood on the far South Side of San Antonio, a monkey caused a commotion.

San Antonio Animal Care Services responded to a call on Tuesday on the Poteet Jourdanton Freeway access road near Palo Alto Road and Gillette Boulevard.

A monkey had gotten away from its owner and roamed around before being caught by ACS officers without incident.

An ACS spokesperson said the owners of the monkey are not from San Antonio and were ordered to remove the animal from within city limits. They were also issued five criminal citations.

ACS said the monkey’s owners received two citations for possession of a prohibited animal, for bringing another monkey with them to reclaim the first one. Another citation was issued to the owners for the animal roaming, one for lack of a rabies vaccination, and another for lack of a microchip.

The spokesperson said a municipal court will decide what the fines will be for the monkey’s owner.
