SAN ANTONIO – Ma Harper, known for her gumbo and other Creole dishes on the menu at Ma Harper’s Creole Kitchen, is known for giving back to the community. But this Friday, a one-day Creole-Asian cuisine collaboration will be held to give back to her.

A pop-up event is scheduled for 5 p.m.-9 p.m. or until the food sells out at Ma’s Harper’s restaurant at 1816 N. New Braunfels Avenue off I-35, just outside the gates of Fort Sam Houston, according to Pinch Boil House’s Facebook page.

Ma Harper, who celebrated her 95th birthday this year, told KSAT’s Katrina Webber she has no plans to slow down.

The retired 20-year-plus U.S. Air Force aircraft mechanic has been in business for 33 years. For the same amount of time, she made it a point to help those who needed it.

With a heart for people, Ma Harper has used her cooking to feed the hungry and offers her smile to give encouragement.

In addition to reaching out to those needing a meal, Ma Harper also takes in people who need a second chance by giving them jobs.

However, Ma Harper has had to deal with some recent financial strain.

The Pinch Boil House is stepping in and lending its specialty to help with the pop-up event that benefits Ma Harper.

The Ma Harper’s X Pinch Collab menu offers the following:

  • Ma Harper’s famous classic New Orleans gumbo will be $12.
  • For $7, you can experience Prawn Star Jambalaya. It is described as Ma Harper’s scratch-made Jambalaya with Pinch’s fried honey Siracha shrimp, topped with garlic butter mayo and scallions.
  • The other fusion dish on the limited menu is fried catfish Banh Mi for $10.
