Woman shot by police at West Side home was armed with ‘blade-like object,’ SAPD says

Police: Woman made threatening remarks to herself before the shooting

SAN ANTONIO – A woman was shot by a San Antonio police officer after she made threats to herself and ran toward officers with a “knife-like object,” according to a preliminary report.

Officers were called to the home in the 200 block of Loma Park Drive on the West Side around 1:45 a.m. Monday.

There, police found a 30-year-old woman attempting to break into her ex-boyfriend’s house, police said.

The woman, who police said made a “slashing motion toward her arm with a blade-like object” while threatening herself, said she was also in possession of a gun.

One of the officers unsuccessfully deployed his Taser. The woman then ran toward police and one officer fired multiple times, striking the woman once, the report said.

The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition, SAPD said.

No other officers or bystanders were injured.

The officer who fired his weapon has three years of service with SAPD. He will be placed on administrative duty, according to police.

Police will conduct two separate, concurrent investigations. Those findings will be sent to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office for review.
