NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – In the summer of 2025, the Crisis Center of Comal County is expected to break ground on its new shelter.
CEO of the shelter, Julie Strentzsch, says it’s all thanks to the community. The groundbreaking will take place on the 2-year mark when a fire destroyed the center’s shelter.
“We’re building a 30,000 square foot building that will have administrative offices with the shelter, with transitional living,” Strentzsch explained. “And what is going to be different is it’s not a congregate care shelter.”
Strentzsch says the new shelter will be designed to allow people to heal in their own space and places and will help families stay together.
“It’s a thank you for everything that, you know, everything that you’ve done to support us to get to this place,” Strentzsch said to the community.
Construction for the $11 million building is only 25% paid for. Strentzsch believes that businesses and people will step up to complete the fundraising needed.
“It’s a request that we still need your help. We still need the community. We have to work together to get to that end goal,” Strentzsch said.
