Whether traveling to New Orleans or staying put in San Antonio, the weather will be something to watch.
New Orleans forecast
Despite the last few mornings of Super Fog, the southerly winds will continue to bring in some fog for New Orleans. The bad news is that the fog will remain possible throughout the weekend, with low visibility decreasing to less than a quarter of a mile.
New Orleans is experiencing a heat wave like the one hitting parts of Texas this week. Afternoon temperatures could soar close to the city’s daily record highs, with Saturday reaching 81 degrees and Sunday hitting 82 degrees — marking the first time since 1946 that these temperatures have been recorded.
Super Bowl extremes
The next Super Bowl could have some weather factors to play. Super Bowl LX is set to take place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. February is typically a wet season for California.
In 2000, Atlanta hosted the iciest Super Bowl on record. The multi-day event was marred by freezing rain that created dangerously icy conditions throughout the region. The weather prevented the Rams, who were in St. Louis at the time, from sending players to practice on the Saturday before the Super Bowl. Despite the challenges, the Rams triumphed over the Tennessee Titans in the game!
Meanwhile, the windiest Super Bowl happened in Miami in 1989, where winds of 15-20 mph and gusts reaching 25 mph made for a challenging atmosphere. The San Francisco 49ers came out on top that day.
What can you expect for your party at home?
A cold front is expected to move into South Texas between Sunday and Monday, but the timing is still uncertain.
Thankfully, we’re starting to get more reliable data from our models. New information suggests the front could pass through on Sunday, bringing a cold air mass to the Hill Country, while areas south of San Antonio remain warmer. In the city, we’ll be right on the dividing line.
