Five candidates were re-elected to the US House of Representatives.
For the second time in a row, incumbent Republican Monica De La Cruz defeated Democrat Michelle Vallejo in the race for District 15, which spans seven counties from Hidalgo to eastern Guadalupe. Election forecasters called this race one of the most competitive in Texas.
De La Cruz won with 57% of the vote.
In District, 21, Republican Chip Roy won his fourth term in Congress. He faced a challenge from Democrat Kristin Hook and Libertarian Bob King. Roy won with 62% of the vote.
Republican Tony Gonzales won a third term in Congress to represent District 23. Gonzales faced a challenge from Democrat Santos Limon, and won with 62% of the vote.
Voters in District 28 kept embattled Democratic congressman Henry Cuellar and gave him an 11th term in Congress. He defeated political newcomer and Republican Jay Furman, 52% to 48%.
Cuellar’s candidacy was marred by legal trouble. In May 2024, the U.S. Department of Justice charged the lawmaker and his wife with 14 criminal counts. Cuellar is accused of bribery, money laundering, and acting as an unregistered agent of a foreign government.
Democrat Greg Casar won his second term in Congress to represent District 35. Casar was challenged by Republican Steven Wright, and won with 67% of the vote.
