SAN ANTONIO โ A San Antonio woman is hoping to change the lives of the youth in the Alamo City through majorette dancing. It is pretty difficult because you have to be flexible.โIn March 2020, she founded the Prestigious Jewels Majorette Team for ages 7 to 18. It helped a lot more people speak to me and it made me a lot more comfortable.โHer high school team was like her family. โIf I can go back to my hometown in Memphis and start a dance team there, that would be great.โAdShe said the Prestigious Jewels Majorette Team welcomes any dancer who wants to join, especially those who need an outlet in their lives. Whatโs Up South Texas!: Man shares love of comic books with South Side community
SAN ANTONIO โ One South Side man is passionate about keeping his love for comic books alive in the community. We have to open up.โ This was everything we had.โIn the beginning, their store looked a lot different from what it looks like today. Through it all, he said the passion for comic booking started with his love of reading. It is like a little group.โHe said it makes him happy seeing the community having the same experience he has when he reads comic books. But I love what I do.โAdHe said the biggest enjoyment is serving the South Side community.
San Antonio organizations partner together, create programs to end youth homelessness
SAN ANTONIO โ Several organizations across Bexar County are teaming up in hopes of ending youth homelessness. โAlthough youth homelessness may not be as visible, itโs still a huge issue in our community,โ said Katie Vela, executive director of the South Alamo Regional Alliance for the Homeless, also known as SARAH. โThe funding is to create a local system that prevents and ends homelessness,โ Vela said. SARAH has teamed up with five local community partners to launch the Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program with the grant money it received. โMany of the programs are permanent housing programs, where thereโs a case manager assigned to help youth and young adults stabilize in their housing, connects them to employment and education opportunities,โ Vela said.
