SAN ANTONIO โ Cameron Ward set a program record with six touchdown passes and he ran for another score as Incarnate Word beat Southeastern Louisiana 56-45 on Saturday. Ward was 26-of-47 passing for 407 yards, and his six scoring throws surpassed Jon Copeland's five against Texas Southern on September 14, 2019. Ward also carried the ball seven times for 38 yards and scored on a 1-yard run. AdCole Kelley threw three touchdown passes and was 38 of 60 for 431 yards passing for Southeastern Louisiana (2-2, 2-2).

Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on Tuesday announced two graduates from the University of Texas at San Antonio โ Emmy Ruiz and Adrian Saenz โ will serve prominent roles in the administration. Biden announced Saenz as the deputy director of the office of public engagement. This weekโs announcement came after the administration on Dec. 30 named three other Texans to serve on the cabinet.

WATCH: UIW kicks off Light the Way holiday event
SAN ANTONIO โ The University of the Incarnate Word kicked off its annual holiday tradition, Light the Way, on Friday. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, this yearโs event has been transformed from a one-day festival into a three-day holiday drive. KSAT Q&A: What this yearโs Light the Way event means to UIWWhile the 34th annual event is free, due to space and time considerations, visitors were encouraged to make reservations online. All reservations have been booked and all three days are officially โsold out.โVisitors will get a chance to travel through the one million lights that illuminate the UIW campus. Drive-thru flu shot clinic to be held at UIW Cardinal Clinic Saturday
SAN ANTONIO โ The University of the Incarnate Word Cardinal Clinic and San Antonio Metro Health District are hosting a drive-thru flu clinic on Saturday. Before the flu shot clinic, District 3 Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran along with Mayor Ron Nirenberg and UIW leaders will host a ribbon-cutting and kick-off ceremony for the drive-thru free flu vaccination campaign. Doctors across the country are urging people to get their flu shot and help the country avoid what they are calling a 'twindemic" of the flu and COVID-19. San Antonio university officials say COVID-19 safety measures keeping campus cases low
Many college students in the San Antonio area have decided to attend classes on campus. About a month into the fall semester, school officials say theyโre keeping a close eye on the situation to make sure the COVID-19 numbers stay as low as possible. โ(We) have people take their own temperature at home before they attempt to come to campus, whether they are faculty, staff or students. At St. Maryโs University, students and staff members must also electronically complete a health check and report any confirmed cases, which are then reflected on the schoolโs site. Since the beginning of the semester at St. Maryโs University, there have been 11 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with five still active between faculty and students.
Seeing double: three pairs of twins compete in UIW athletics
San Antonio Three sets of twins share the unique bond of attending the University of the Incarnate Word together. I think that just really showcased the family connection UIW has, how everyone is like so close and its like a family bond between all the athletes so it kinda just strengthened what I thought about UIW, Sophia said. The ultimate decision was UIW because it all lined up perfectly with her being there and graphic design and all that, he said. However, with her entire family living in the San Antonio area, Jordan decided she wanted to attend UIW with sister. But like now what were older, we know when to like push and when to like stay quiet, Jordan said.
UIW offers free back-to-school vaccines for San Antonio school children
SAN ANTONIO If your child still needs to get their back to school vaccines, the University of the Incarnate Word may be able to help. The university will offer free back-to-school immunizations through the Cardinal Clinic from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 8 and Saturday, Aug. 15, by appointment only. The free vaccines will be given at the UIW School of Osteopathic Medicine. To be eligible to receive the vaccines, you must meet these qualifications:Child must be between 4-18 years of age. 50 acres of land will be untouched, preserved indefinitely, UIW announces
SAN ANTONIO The University of the Incarnate Word announced Wednesday that 50 acres of land will be untouched and preserved indefinitely in San Antonio. The preservation effort is part of a signed conservation easement between the Headwaters at Incarnate Word and the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. The university said the goal of the easement is to make sure everyone can use the land without it ever changing. The Headwaters property includes the blue hole spring and natural walking trails.
UIW football eager for return to practice, start of 2020 season

Richard Duran drops interim tag, officially elevated to UIW Athletic Director
SAN ANTONIO On Aug. 12, 2019, the University of the Incarnate Word announced that Athletic Director Brian Wickstrom had left the program after just two years at the helm. In the wake of that abrupt departure, deputy AD Richard Duran stepped up to assume those duties as the interim Athletic Director. Today, that interim tag has been dropped. As announced via a press conference Monday morning, University of the Incarnate Word President Dr. Thomas M. Evans has officially elevated Duran to the permanent position of Athletic Director. Recent UIW graduate and golf program alum, John Hill, qualifies for the PGA Tour Canada despite great personal loss
SAN ANTONIO โ The UIW golf program might have been cut short, but that didnโt mean that recent graduate, John Hill, didnโt shine. Hill was a Southland menโs golf All-Academic first team selection two years in a row as well as a first team All-Southland Conference selection last season. Hill won three tournaments outright his junior season โ the most individual wins in a single semester for the Cardinals. Hill was also named the Southland Conference Menโs Golf Student Athlete of the Year for the 2019-20 season โ also a program first. โYou just kinda have to learn to go out and shoot a low number each time and just kinda go fight against a lot of really good players so Iโm excited to do that โ I love playing against good players.
UIW cancels study abroad trip to Italy, urges precaution for other international travel
SAN ANTONIO โ The University of the Incarnate Word has suspended a faculty-led study abroad trip to Italy in light of a coronavirus outbreak in that country, and school officials are urging others to consider the CDCโs travel warnings before making plans to travel internationally. UIW officials also sent a message to student and faculty about international travel plans during Spring Break. They were also encouraged to โevaluate non-essential travel throughout the Asia region during the Spring semester.โStudents from China were asked to contact the Office of International Services to advise of international travel plans in advance. The residence and dining halls will be open and fully operational during Spring Break for students staying on or near campus. UIW officials shared the following CDC recommendations for preventing the spread of respiratory viruses:
No. 25 UIW rolls over Lamar 35-17
25 UIW improved to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in Southland Conference action with a 35-17 victory over Lamar University Saturday at Benson Stadium. The UIW offense had no problem against the conference's most stringent passing defense, putting up 150 more yards than Lamar had allowed on average per contest. Copeland threw touchdowns to four different receivers and attributed his success to both his receivers and the offensive line. Lamar halved the lead in the third quarter after a 10-yard run from Myles Wanza but UIW was able to respond on the ensuing drive. The UIW defense also added two interceptions, bringing their season total to 15 -- tops in the FCS.
