Landmark church in Deco District faces costly repairs after winter storm
SAN ANTONIO โ A small pump wasnโt enough to take out the water that had found its way beneath the floor of Jefferson Community Church, a Deco District landmark, after last weekโs winter storms. โAfter two days, it didnโt look like it had moved at all,โ said Pastor Olivia Walker, who had attended the church as a child. When last weekโs beautiful blanket of snow that covered the church had melted, it came in through the gaps around the foundation, Walker said. She said the sanctuary was spared, but water covered the floors of storage areas and choir rooms. Its congregation, now with only about 100 members, had already made costly repairs and improvements trying to shore up the building.

SAN ANTONIO โ Police are investigating after a man claims he broke into Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Friday morning to pray. The man was arrested on outstanding warrants. Police are determining whether to file charges against the man for the break-in at the church at 159 Camino Santa Maria.
San Antonio church leaders evaluating when congregations can begin to meet again
San Antonio โ San Antonio church leaders say they are actively having conversations about when their congregations will meet again for a live service. Chris Johnson, pastor of the First Baptist Church San Antonio, says pastors from across the city are calling and emailing each other to figure out a safe plan for their members. He said each church will decide when and how itโs safest for their congregation to meet again. Health experts with the city of San Antonio are recommending that churches wait to hold live services for a bit longer, based on what local data is showing. Local church continues to feed hungry during pandemic

SAN ANTONIO โ The city, county and state each issued new public health emergency declarations this week that prohibits large gatherings of more than 10 people. The declaration comes in response to the novel coronavirus outbreak. While places of worship are excluded from the group gatherings ban, many local churches are still deciding to cancel services. Church provides homeless a place to sleep to escape freezing temperatures
SAN ANTONIO โ Dozens of homeless people have a warm place to sleep Thursday night, thanks to the help from Church Under the Bridge. The church has room for up to 75 people. Along with warmth, there are also resources to try and help them improve their living situation. Hopefully, they have the motivation to just do just that,โ said Greg Goodrich, senior pastor of Church Under the Bridge. The church is feeding these groups of people and showing a movie before bed.
