A host of big-name performers including Kid Rock and country singers Carrie Underwood and Jason Aldean will be making their way to Washington, D.C., to perform at various presidential inauguration events.

Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman speaks at the inauguration of U.S. President Joe Biden. When she was young, Gorman had difficulty saying certain letters of the alphabet, especially words with the letter “R,” according to NPR. Even before speaking at the inauguration, Gorman was no stranger to giving poems at famed locations. In 2014, she was named the Youth Poet Laureate of Los Angeles at the age of 16. Three years later, while a student at Harvard, Gorman was named first National Youth Poet Laureate.

SAN ANTONIO – The inauguration will look different today because of the pandemic and security concerns, but that didn’t stop Bexar County Court 13 Judge Rosie Speedlin Gonzalez from making the trip with her wife. Once President-elect Joe Biden and Vice-President elect Kamala Harris were announced the winner of the 2020 election back in December, Gonzalez told her wife to book their flights. “We’re booking for Kamala Harris because she is going to be history-making as a woman of color,” Gonzalez said. “We’re here to watch history be made.”Despite tightened security because of the recent violent insurrection at the Capitol and the uncertainty of more possible violent protests, Gonzalez is not letting it scare her. The outgoing president traditionally attends the inauguration to symbolize the peaceful transfer of power. And there will be no inaugural balls for Biden, Harris and their spouses to dance the night away. But in the wake of the violent Jan. 6 mob attack on the Capitol by Trump supporters, all semblance of normality might be gone. Biden, first lady Jill Biden, Harris and second gentlemen Douglas Emhoff will later visit Arlington National Cemetery to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The inauguration comes just two weeks after the insurrection at the Capitol by Trump supporters as Congress was confirming Biden's victory.

Thinking about committing a federal crime, ahead of the upcoming presidential inauguration? Attorneys representing the four districts in Texas. In a news release Wednesday, they announced their intent to prosecute any crimes committed at the State Capitol or elsewhere. Attorneys plan to work with federal, state and local law enforcement throughout Texas to aggressively identify individuals who violate federal law. Attorneys in Texas said they have been, and will continue, to work with Department of Justice officials and necessary law enforcement in those prosecutions.

The number of National Guard troops coming to Washington to assist with security has so far grown to about 21,000, Army Gen. Daniel Hokanson, chief of the National Guard Bureau, told Vice President Mike Pence at a briefing Thursday. National Guard members operate under strict rules of engagement on the use of force. D.C. SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio company will be playing a big part in the 2021 presidential inauguration. This will mark the fifth time the San Antonio flag makers have sewn flags for the U.S. Capitol behind the presidential inaugural dais. The picture shown above is from the 2017 presidential inauguration. The company has been making American flags since 1958 and their flags have been graced at the One World Trade Center Memorial, football stadiums and the George Washington Bridge.
