6 Wagner student-athletes make their college signings official

Notable signings include football player Ke’Von Carter (NC State) and baseball player Ryan Self (UTSA)

CONVERSE, Texas – Wednesday may be in the rearview mirror, but several Wagner Thunderbirds celebrated their National Signing Day moments on Thursday.

Six student-athletes — four football and two baseball players — locked in their collegiate futures with a simple stroke of a pen.

Current teammates Charles Mondy and William Reynolds will continue their educational and athletic careers as future teammates at Eastern New Mexico University.

Azario Brooks, who signed on at West Texas A&M University, could face Mondy and Reynolds as an opponent at WTAMU because both schools compete in the NCAA Division II’s Lone Star Conference.

Linebacker Ke’Von Carter, however, signed his letter of intent to play ball at North Carolina State in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

“I really love it,” Carter told KSAT. “(North Carolina) State is really big, (the) fanbase is really good ... Nice environment. Everything’s clean.”

Senior Ryan Self isn’t moving too far away from Converse. He will suit up for the University of Texas at San Antonio baseball team next season.

“It’s been the school I’ve wanted since I was young,” Self said. “It’s right here in town. I get to stay with my family, stay with my friends. I just thought it was the perfect place for me.”

Ryder Brill, Self’s Thunderbird teammate on the diamond, signed with Dodge City Community College in Kansas on Thursday.
