Wagner girls' basketball wins 4th-straight district title

The team shares the District 26 5A title with Pieper HS following Tuesday’s win

SAN ANTONIO – The Karen J. Wagner High School girls' basketball team is no novice to winning district titles.

With the Thunderbirds' game against the Alamo Heights Mules on Tuesday evening, they needed a win to earn a share of the District 26 5A title.

After getting off to a rocky start, Wagner was able to clean up some of their rebounding mistakes and pull away to beat Alamo Heights 61-36, clinching their fourth straight district title.

It was clear the Thunderbirds enjoyed the moment — but they have bigger plans on their mind.

“The main focus is the road ahead, which is the road to state right now, but it’s a great feeling to know that we accomplished this goal that we had on the list,” said senior guard LA Sneed.

Senior guard Jenae Moore said she enjoys the feeling of playing as a team.

“Obviously we have fun doing it together, fourth year in a row not to brag ... Winning district just feels good, but you know we got more to go when we go into playoff and go to a state championship,” Moore said.
