After trailing by 9 points at halftime, the Rattlers couldn’t find their offense rhythm and lost 74-54.
Valerie Huizar, St. Mary’s University’s head women’s basketball coach, said she knows her young team will learn from this experience.
“We play hard, you know we really do. We don’t play as smart, yet we don’t pick our moments when we should go up,” Huizar said. “I just think the game happens a little too fast for our freshman sometimes, but I don’t question their want-to. I never question their work ethic.”
Huizar expressed optimism about the team’s potential and the growth she expects from her young roster.
“So we’re gonna keep getting better. That’s the best thing about having a young team,” she said. “Seven freshmen, I mean, everyone’s returning except one, and we’re gonna be really good in the future, in the near future, so it’s gonna be an exciting journey to see.”
The Rattlers’ next matchup is on Thursday at Texas A&M International.
